3 Signs That You Need Better Water Quality

If you’re questioning the quality of your water supply, it’s time to get serious about what you’re sipping. There are three typical signs that indicate you need to check your water quality in Pelham, NY.

Cloudy or Tinted Water

Cloudy water won’t always mean that the water is unsafe to drink. But it is one of the leading indicators that you could have chemicals or pathogens contaminating the water. Even if some aren’t harmful in small doses, they could lead to health complications over time.

If your drinking water is cloudy, speak with a professional about your water quality in Pelham, NY.

Tinted or discolored water, however, is unsafe to drink. The discoloration could come from pollutants like pesticides or motor oil. Regardless of their origin, you won’t want to consume them.

A Slimy, Greasy Feel

If you’re feeling less clean after your shower than you did going in, hard water could be the culprit. When minerals build up in your pipes, the hard water that comes out won’t leave you feeling very clean.

If the problem isn’t hard water, it could be that actual grease has gotten into your water. Either way, you’ll want to have this addressed, so you don’t have to wash your hair twice to feel clean.

An Off-Putting Smell

Your drinking water should be odorless — if it’s not, there’s a problem with your water quality in Pelham, NY.

Two common and readily apparent smells are chlorine or rotten eggs. Small, controlled amounts of chlorine are added to your water by your treatment plant. But if your water smells like pool water, it’s possible that the chlorine in your water had a chemical reaction with other compounds and could be harmful to drink or to use on your skin.

If the water has a rotten egg smell, that could suggest high amounts of hydrogen sulfide. When hydrogen sulfide reacts with certain types of bacteria, it becomes sulfate, or the source of that sour smell in your water supply.

Too much sulfate can cause dehydration and diarrhea, but it’ll also probably keep you from wanting to drink your water at all.
